New Worm Configuration

Due to changes in available technology the worm configuration has changed.

New installations will consist of: P5 based P.C.8MB Ram Adaptec 1500 series SCSI host adapter Colour Monitor, keyboard and mouse

Internal 1GB IDE drive 4mm DAT tape Internal worm drive External CDROM MS-DOS Windows Corel SCSI Cheyenne ARCserver (R)/solo v2. 11

The 4mm DAT tape and Cheyenne ARCserver are new additions to allow tape backups of optical disks to be created.

The CDROM is included as Corel SCSI is now only distributed on CDROM.

Windows is required as Corel SCSI will only install through the windows interface.

Note well

Windows and Worm archiving should not be running

concurrently.

Worm technology is changing rapidly. New drives are being released which have faster access times and higher write densities. Suppliers are becoming reluctant to repair older

New technolgy is not backwards compatible with some of the original drives that EDP supplied.

Using Cheyenne ARCserver, scripts can be created which will copy worm disks to the 4mm tape drive. In the event of data corruption or if the worm has to be replaced, then these tapes can be used to re-create archive disks.

Configuration and Installation.

The basic P.C. will be bought in with DOS and Windows pre-loaded and the base configuration tested.

The following additional sub-assemblies are to be installed.

1. Adaptec 1500 series SCSI host adapter.

2. Internal Worm drive set to I.D.1

3. Internal 4mm DAT tape set to I.D.2

4. External CDROM set for I.D.3

Once the additional hardware has been installed then EZ-SCSI, the Adaptec software driver, is to be installed.

Insert the Adaptec EZ-SCSI MS-DOS diskette into the floppy drive.

At the C:> prompt enter a:(cr)

Observe the boot messages to ensure that all SCSI devices are detected and no error messages are displayed.

If any SCSI devices are not detected or if any error messages are displayed then contact Support for advice.

Install the Corel SCSI CDROM into the CDROM drive.

At the c:> prompt enter e: (cr)

The system will display e:>

Select the list option and ensure that Corel SCSI detects all SCSI devices.

Exit from dostools.

To functionally test the worm drive

Install a worm optical disk into the worm drive. Enter

c:> copy c:*.* d:(cr)

d:(cr)

The system will display d:>

enter dir/w

The worm activity light should flicker showing that it is being accessed and a directory listing of the files copied from the c drive will be displayed.
