Specialix SPI/08+

The Specialix SPI/08+ has been adopted by the EDP Group as a low cost RS232 adapter.

The Specialix I/08+ is a high performance,ISA based, 8 port, asynchronous adapter for attaching serial devices to Unix based systems.

Regardless of the type of host system the limitation is two Specialix I/08+ per configuration.

Each Specialix I/08+ requires individual IRQ, memory address and occupies either one ISA slot or one EISA slot.

There is one switch block for configuring memory addresses and eight RJ12 sockets at the rear of the Specialix I/08+ for cable connections.

All I/08+ will be supplied with RJ12 to DB25 conversion cables. Cable specifications are shown on page 5.

See page 4, for switch selections, memory addresses and IRQ's for board 1 and board 2.

As EDP only supplies the NCR3259, S40 and S4300 systems, configuration information is limited to these systems.

(Tech Serv Ref AB149)

Installing the SPECIALIX I/08+ in a S40/S4300 system under NCR SVR4.

The following instructions are to install an ISA SPI/08 + in a S40 SYSTEM.

Configure the switch block and then install the SPI/08+ into an available EISA slot.

(Make a note of the slot number).

Boot the system with the SCU diskette installed in the Flex drive.

From the SCU MAIN menu

Select option 2 - add/remove boards

Select add=INSERT

Select SPI/08+ - ISA configuration file.

If the configuration file does not exist on the SCU diskette, then repeat the above using the SPI/08+ configuration files diskette.

Repeat the above.

At THE SLOT SELECT menu

Select the relevant EISA slot that the SPI/08+ was installed into, (CR)

ESC to main menu

Select option 3 - change configuration settings

From the menu select

SPI/08+ (CR)

Press FG to display the current setting.

For the 1st SPI/08+ :-

I/O address = 100H

IRQ = 9

For the serial SPI/08+ :-

I/O address = 104

IRQ =15

Press ESC to exit to the main menu

Select option 4 - save configuration (CR)

To enable the current configuration to be printed by PTS:-

Select option 5 - view switch/jumper settings.

Select `Print - F7' to send the print job to a file.

Esc to the main menu.

Select option 6 to exit

Boot up the Unix operating system to load the SPI/08+ driver package.

Login to root and pkgadd the IO8 package from the diskette

At `ABOUT TO INSTALL' enter [CR]

At `IS THIS AN EISA SYSTEM' enter

`YES'[CR][CR]

At `HOW MANY CARDS'

Select quantity to be installed [CR]

Enter the I/O address and IRQ as applicable

At `RE-ENTER HARDWARE DETAILS' enter `NO' (CR)

The driver package will be installed

To configure ports and printers use SYSADM in the usual way.

Installing the Specialix I/08+ in a NCR3259 under SCO server.

Set the switches in accordance with the attached guide.

Install the pcb(s) into free ISA slot(s).

Boot the system.

Insert the Specialix I/08+ driver diskette into the floppy and in root on the console enter #custom (CR).

Follow the screen prompts to:-
