ADDING ADDITIONAL UNIVISION TAPE DEVICES

IN A SCO HOST

 

UniVision for SCO only auto detects the first tape unit.

Subsequent tape devices have to be added manually.

To simplify this UniVision Development have added a further option to :INIT-TAPE.

To add second and subsequent tapes units use :INIT-TAPE(BX

and the attached Technical Bulletin.

UniVision TECHNICAL BULLETIN NUMBER 5

Subject A : Implementing additional tape drives under SCO Open Server Release 5.0.2

For UniVision Release 6.0.12 and above.

 

After UniVision is loaded onto your system, you will be required to contact your Systems Administration manager to detail your SCSI tape drives within SCO 5.0.2.

 

  1. At the SCO login banner logto the UniVision account by entering univ followed by <CR> (Note : univ must be in lower case)
  2.  

    Screen displays : SCO Open Server Release 5

    Login: univ <CR>

    Password: enter your password <CR>

     

  3. You will now be displayed the UniVision Proprietary and Copyright notice screen. You are displayed the UniVision prompt and will see information about your copy of UniVision.
  4. Now at the logon prompt at the UniVision Copyright screen, enter the SYSPROG account by entering:
  5. Screen displays : Logon please : SYSPROG <CR>

    You will now be displayed the UniVision UTILITIES MENU

    Press the Escape Key [Esc], to get to the UCL prompt.

  6. Now enter the following command to configure the extra tape device drivers :
  7. Screen displays : > :INIT-TAPE (BX <CR>

  8. The following screen will be displayed :

    Screen displays : Configure Extra Tape Device Drivers

    Press [Escape] to return to :INIT-TAPE

    Device <1>

    Enter full path for no rewind tape device driver ?

    IMPORTANT: NOW CONTACT YOUR SCO SYSTEMS ADMINSTRATOR MANAGER AN

    ASK HIM/HER TO INFORM YOU OF THE PATHS FOR THE REWIND AND

    THE NO REWIND DEVICE DRIVERS

     

  10. When you have the above information from your SCO Systems Administrator Manager, enter the information as follows :
  11. Screen displays : Enter full path for no rewind tape device driver.? /dev/nrStp0 <CR>

    Enter full path for rewind tape device driver.? /dev/nrxStp0 <CR>

     

    NOTE: The above are EXAMPLES only. CONSULT YOUR SCO SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR MANAGER.

     

  12. Screen then asks for the device description. Enter the device type followed by <CR>
  13. Screen displays : Enter device description.? 4mm Dat Tape <CR>

  14. You will now be asked to enter the path of Device Driver <2>
  15. Enter the details as in step 6 and 7, CONSULTING YOUR SCO SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR MANAGER for the path details. If you do not require to enter any further device driver details, press the [Esc] Escape key followed by <CR>

     

  16. A device screen will now be displayed. Now select the appropriate letter against the device type you require to initialise. Do this by moving the cursor in alignment with your selected device type, then press <CR>.
  17. Screen displays : UNIX DEVICE NAME TYPE DEFAULT B/S [DESCRIPTION]

    /dev/rtd0135ds9 FO 500 3.5" Low density (720k)

    /dev/nrSt0 DO 4096 4mm Dat Tape

    Enter Device Type [Q]uarter inch, [F]loppy, [H]alf inch, [E]8mm, [D]at

    Press (Spacebar) to Delete, or [ESC] to Finish

     

    NOTE : The letter for the respective device type must be entered in UPPERCASE. Above is example only.

  18. When all your device details are entered press the [Esc] Escape key, the screen will display your entered device details.

  1. Now at UCL enter "OFF", followed by Carriage return <CR>. Now you can log back into SYSPROG and are able to use your tape devices.
