ROUTER CONFIGURATION RECORD PROCEDURE

1 This Admin Bulletin supercedes some of the information detailed in FECO COMMS # 58/1 and FECO COMMS 65.
2 INTRODUCTION
There is a need to have access to the latest up to date Configuration Record of ALL installed Routers and Bridges.
3 ROUTER CONFIGURATION RECORD PROCEDURE

Whenever a router is configured or re-configured, then the person carrying out

the configuration is responsible for the production of a hardcopy AND soft-copy

(electronic) of the Configuration Record ( latest set-ups).

For details of how to do this refer to FECO COMMS #58/1 or FECO COMMS #65.
The soft-copy should be named with the customer name and geographical location, to identify it later; i.e. [customer]Underscore[location] Bloggs_Hull ; and also contain the main Serial Number of the router, as well as the Date & Name of Configurer.

They are also responsible for distribution as detailed below.
4 FIRST CONTINGENCY
If it is not possible for the person configuring or re-configuring the router, to produce the Configuration Record with the equipment and facilities on site; then they are to get help from the Support Centre at Linford Wood; who are to dial into the customer and retrieve the Configuration Record from the router.

For details of how to do this refer to FECO COMMS #58/1 or FECO COMMS #65.

The Support Centre is then responsible for the distribution of the Configuration Record as detailed below in paras 5 & 7. A hardcopy is to be faxed to the customer site immediately for the installation engineer to give to the customer; and a soft copy, (floppy), sent as soon as possible. A hard and soft copy is also to be sent to the local EDP Office.

5 DISTRIBUTION of SUPPORT COPY
A Soft-Copy of the Configuration Record is always to be sent to Technical Services at Linford Wood; e-mail address brianr@edp.fastfreenet.com
Technical Services are responsible for ensuring that all received Configuration Records are transferred into the Router Setup Directory, and that regular backups of this directory are made and stored.
This record is also to be maintained on the BDC server at Linford Wood.
6 DISTRIBUTION of OTHER COPIES
For Configuration in Production and/or EDP Office ONLY.

A copy of the Configuration Record should be kept in Production or the EDP Office.

A hardcopy and soft-copy of the Configuration Record should travel with the Router to its destination customer site.

7 DISTRIBUTION of OTHER COPIES
For Configuration/Installation at Customer Site ONLY.

A hardcopy and soft-copy (floppy) of the Configuration Record should be given (sent) to the Customer with instructions that they are to maintain them in a safe place with the OnSite Documentation, for future use.
The Network Diagram & Link Details should also be put with the OnSite Documentation.
A copy of the Configuration Record /Network Diagram/Link Details should be kept in the local EDP Office.

Network Diagrams must contain IP information.
Link Details must contain information on the type of line, speed, circuit number and destination.
Both Network Diagrams and Link Details must be updated when changes are made.
