This readme file contains the following sections: * Known Issues * Supported Components ====================================================================== KNOWN ISSUES ====================================================================== The following are known issues for Dell PowerVault 22xS systems. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Audible Alarm ---------------------------------------------------------------------- * The audible alarm sounds if the split-bus module is not installed, even if the alarm is disabled. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bus Configuration Switch Position ---------------------------------------------------------------------- * Rackmount systems (220S): Up=joined-bus mode; Center=split-bus mode; Down=cluster mode * Tower systems (221S): Right=joined-bus mode; Center=split-bus mode; Left=cluster mode ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Host Reboot ---------------------------------------------------------------------- * Host system must be rebooted if: - The bus configuration switch setting has changed (in which case the storage system must also be rebooted) - The storage system is connected to a host system that uses either an Adaptec 3960D (39160) HBA or PERC 3/Di RAID controller (Dell PowerEdge(TM) 2500 and 4400 systems only) and configuration changes have been made. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 "New Hardware Found" Message ---------------------------------------------------------------------- * In Windows 2000, if you receive the "New Hardware Found" message, Windows will prompt you to install a driver for your storage system. To suppress the message, load the DellBP.inf file included on the Resource CD. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Firmware Updated by Array Manager ---------------------------------------------------------------------- * In split-bus mode, Array Manager reports the correct firmware version for the EMM (enclosure management module) to which it is connected, but may report an older version on the other EMM after a firmware download. ====================================================================== SUPPORTED COMPONENTS ====================================================================== The PowerVault 22xS supports the following hardware and software components. This document provides instructions for installing Dell OpenManage Array Manager, version 3.1 or later, onto a host system. Installing Array Manager 1. Insert the Dell OpenManage Applications CD, version 2.2 or later, provided with your PowerVault storage system into the CD drive on the host system, and then follow the instructions that appear on the screen. 2. When prompted to select the type of installation, select "Custom Setup." 3. Ensure that "RAID Management" is checked, and then click OK. The installation program checks the host system to verify that the system has the correct driver and firmware versions required to support your PowerVault 220S or 221S storage system. If you need to update any drivers or firmware, a "More Info" message will appear. 4. To update the drivers and firmware, perform the following steps: a) Click "More Info." A screen appears listing the items you need to update. b) Note the required drivers and firmware updates, and then exit the installation process. c) Download the latest versions of the drivers and firmware from the Dell Support website at support.dell.com. d) Repeat steps 1 through 3 to begin and continue with the Array Manager installation.
