Unloading, Receiving, and Moving Your Equipment

Ensure that you have the following unloading, receiving, and moving equipment available:

Ensure that the delivery path for the rack meets the following conditions:

For a Dell PowerEdge 42-unit (U) rack:

For a Dell PowerEdge 4210 42-unit (U) rack:

For a Dell PowerEdge 24-U rack:

note.gif (521 bytes) NOTE: If your site does not meet the delivery path requirements, you need to remove the rack from the pallet and have two people available to tilt the rack.

Ensure that two people are available to remove the rack from the pallet.


Physical Characteristics of the Site

note.gif (521 bytes) NOTE: The following floor plan and ceiling measurements are Dell specifications. You may need to amend them for compliance with local ordinances.

Ensure that the floor plan provides for the following space requirements:

For a 42-U rack or a 4210 42-U rack, check that the ceiling height is at least 2.74 meters (m) (9 ft) high. For a 24-U rack, the ceiling should be at least 1.83 m (6 ft) high.

Raised computer floors should meet the following conditions:


Air-Conditioning and Lighting Requirements

Before installing the rack system, estimate the heat dissipation of the proposed rack system (your Dell sales representative can provide you with specifications for system components).

The air-conditioning in the computer room should meet the following conditions:


Electrical Requirements

The rack system should not  be connected to an AC power source that is also being used by industrial equipment such as electric motors, welders, elevators, copiers, or large monitors.

Use a line analyzer to check AC power for the following measurements:

An AC outlet that accommodates locking plugs should be available for each locking-plug power distribution unit (PDU) or APC 3000 RM uninterruptible power supply (UPS)ordered.

note.gif (521 bytes) NOTE: If no room-wide UPS exists, Dell recommends that you have every server running from a UPS mounted in each rack enclosure.
