REASON FOR CHANGE: TO RELEASE THE TALLY 2030/2130 PRINTER RANGE.

1.     Reason for change

EDP introduce the new tally 2030/2130 range of impact printers. The 2030 are 80 column width and the 2130 are 132 column width; with either a 9 or 24pin printhead.

It is designed as a low volume office/invoice printer, to compete with the OKI 320/321 market..

5.     load ribbon

5.1   ensure any paper loaded in the printer is removed.

5.2   ensure the power is switched off.

5.3   set the paper thickness adjustment lever to the "8" position.

5.4   pull the latch covers near the right and left ends of the access cover to the front, and detach the entire
       access cover.

5.5   move the print head to approximately the centre.

Beware!! The printhead may be hot if it has been in use.

5.6   align the two hook positions on the left side of the ink-ribbon cartridge to the part "a" of the printer, push
       the cartridge all the way until it clicks. If there is resistance, push it while turning the ribbon feed knob.

5.7   detach the ribbon guide from the ink-ribbon cartridge.

Do not detach the shield that has been attached to the ribbon guide; it is necessary to protect the ribbon.

5.8   put the ribbon guide between the print head and the platen and push it all the way until it clicks.

When attaching the ribbon guide, be careful not to fold the ribbon. Also, pay attention to the shield so that it does not become damaged.

Turn the ribbon feed knob in the direction indicated by the arrow to remove any slack in the ribbon.

5.9   when the ink-ribbon cartridge setting is complete, attach the access cover.

Set the paper thickness adjustment lever in accordance with the thickness of the paper to be used.

6.     menu unlock

6.1   the printer comes from the supplier with menu access locked out.

6.2   the control panel has on line, setup and four other buttons, numbered 1 to 4, left to right.

6.3   to enter the menu when locked, switch the power on whilst holding the setup button.

Once in menu use the back/next buttons to navigate the menu structure to "menlock", select menlock, select off.

Select set, select setup.

6.4   the menu is now unlocked.

7.     loading paper

7.1   only use paper which is suitable for the printer. For more information refer to para 2 or part 11, appendix c of
       the operators manual.

7.2   cut sheet paper.

7.2.1 cut sheet paper is inserted from the front of the printer, and can be fed out of the rear or front. For
        selecting front eject (f eject) see para xx.

7.2.2 adjust paper thickness lever according to the type of paper.

7.2.3 for rear eject stand the paper tray up in the direction indicated by the arrow. Whilst holding the paper tray,
        pull up the paper extension trays.

7.2.4 set the paper type selection lever to cut sheet paper mode.

7.2.5 ensure printer is in single sheet mode as shown on display.

7.2.6 determine the left margin by moving the left paper guide left or right. (the "[a" mark indicates the standard
        print start position.)

7.2.7 place a sheet of paper aligned to the left paper guide, and adjust the right paper guide to the right edge of
        the paper.

Insert the paper between the left and right paper guides. The paper is automatically fed to the print start position and the printer is ready to print.

7.2.8 the paper feed-out capacity is about 30 sheets. When the post-print paper is set to feed out to the front,
        the paper must be removed sheet by sheet.

7.3   fan fold paper

7.3.1 continuous form feed paper is to inserted from the front of the printer, and the post-print portion will be fed
        out of the rear top.

Note:-when using continuous form feed paper, return the paper tray and paper extension trays to their original positions.

7.3.2 set the paper thickness adjustment lever according to the type of paper to be used. Refer to para 5.10. Set
        the paper type selection lever to continuous form feed paper mode.

7.3.3 open the front cover.

7.3.4 stand the left and right sprocket block fixing levers up (in the direction indicated by the arrow), and release
        the locks.

7.3.5 open the paper hold of the left and right sprocket blocks.

Match the left and right sprocket blocks to the paper width.

Locate the paper plate in the center between the left and right sprocket blocks.

7.3.6 with the printing side of the paper facing up, fit the feeding holes on the left edge of the paper over the left
        sprocket block pins and close the paper hold.

Place the paper parallel to the sprocket block length.

7.3.7 fit the feeding holes on the right edge of the paper over the right sprocket block pins, and close the paper
        hold.

To avoid paper jams, ensure that the same left and right feeding holes are used, and placed over sprocket pins of the same level.

7.3.8 after the paper is set, adjust the left margin by moving the sprocket blocks left or right. The "[a" mark is the
        standard print start position.

7.3.9 push down the left sprocket block fixing lever to lock the left sprocket.

7.3.10 move the right sprocket block to remove any paper slack, and then push down the fixing lever to lock it in
        place.

If the paper slack cannot be removed by moving the right sprocket block alone, adjust the position of the left sprocket block. Be careful not to stretch the paper so much that it tears.

7.3.11 switch on the printer.

The active feeder (trac.1) is displayed.

7.3.12 paper is automatically fed when the printer is in online status and receives data from the computer.

7.3.13 press the load key to load paper before printing.

10.     set tear position

10.1  press setup

10.4  press < or > to move the perforation to the appropriate position.

10.5  confirm the setting by pressing the set button.

10.6  press the set up button, and the printer will return to its initial status.

10.7  the correction shown in 72nds of an inch to a maximum of 1" in both directions.

11.     set top of form (tof)

11.1  the tof can be set for each individual type of paper source and each menu.

Tof should be adjusted after the tear position.

11.2  press set up

11.3  press adjust

11.4  press tof

11.5  the bottom edge of the currently valid first printing line a of the paper is transported to the tear edge b.

The factory setting for the first printing position is 12/72".

11.6 press < or > to move the first printing line to the appropriate position.

You can set values from 0 to 220/72" for fanfold paper or 0 to 72/72" for single sheet.

11.7  confirm the setting by pressing set button.

11.8  press the setup key. The printer returns to its initial status.

13.     bidirectional print adjustment (l/r adj)

13.1  the l/r adjustment should be made using fanfold paper, since the paper should be positioned in the view
        position in order to check paper offset.

This is not possible with cutsheets.

13.2  enter setup

13.3  select menu

13.4  navigate through the menu to l/r adj and select

13.5  two lines of i's will be printed underneath each other, with the value of the adjustment printed afterwards.

13.6  adjust using the < and > then set so that there is no offset.

13.7  exit

14.     f-eject

14.1  to set f-eject so that single sheets eject to the front

14.3  select menu

14.4  navigate throgh the menu to f-eject, and select

15.     sensor check

15.1  this facility enables a check on the state and operation of the sensors.

15.2  switch on whilst holding buttons 1, 2, and setup.

18.     main logic

There are four different main logic boards for the four variants of the 2030/2130 9/24 printer.

Soldered link jp1 determines 2030/2130.

Firmware determines the 9/24 pin variant.

19     access to interior

19.1 disconnect mains and data cables.

19.2  remove the top access cover and the cut sheet paper insert guide.

19.3  remove 2 screws from the rear and 2 screws from the front.

19.4  remove the rear interface cover.

19.5  remove the platen knob.

19.6  lift up the cover assembly and remove by gently rolling from the rear towards the front. Take care as the
        ribbon cable connecting the front panel assy is still connected. Disconnect this ribbon cable.

19.7  the interior is now accessible.

20.    At present edp is only supplying the 9 pin variant.
