CHANGE OF PSEUDO TTY’S ON SVR4

  1. NOTE:
  2. Throughout this FECO a SPACE in a string is shown by a Ñ .

    All other spaces are cosmetic

  3. When networking, the processes used are called pseudo terminal service (pts)
  4. Loading the default options on the nsu package on installation means that the default number of pseudo terminals created on a system will be 256, or 768 if the system has over 64MB of ram.
  5. To increase this number you must edit and change the third value in the following files
  6. /etc /conf /sdevice.d /ptm

    ptm Ñ y Ñ 768 Ñ 0 Ñ 0 Ñ 0 Ñ 0 Ñ 0 Ñ 0 Ñ 0

    /etc /conf /sdevice.d /ptem

    i.e. ptem Ñ y Ñ 768 Ñ 0 Ñ 0 Ñ 0 Ñ 0 Ñ 0 Ñ 0 Ñ 0

  7. Once you have changed the value you must relink the kernel and reboot the system.
  8. /etc /conf /bin /idbuild

    shutdown Ñ -y Ñ -g0 Ñ -i6

  9. Note: The maximum number of pseudo terminals that can be created are 8192. Only create the

number you require as it can tie-up resources on the system.
