TRAVAN TAPE UNIT CLEANING KITS
- INTRODUCTION
Customer problems have been reported which can be attributed to the Travan Tape Unit
being incorrectly cleaned.
The approved cleaning method is to use the DRY CLEAN cartridge that is recommended by the
Travan Tape Unit manufacturers.
The reason a dry clean cartridge must be used is because wet clean cartridges will smear
the surface of the Travan head assembly thus decreasing the drives performance.
Just think of our head assembly as a window or pane of glass. If you get a wet soapy cloth
and smear it across the window / pane of glass it becomes difficult to see through the
window due to the smear. This is also true for the Travan tape drive, a smear caused by a
wet clean cartridge will make it harder for the drive to read and write to media, thus
increasing retries and effecting the drives performance.
This may eventually lead to failure or at least increase the possibility of failure in the
drive.
