1. OKI have introduced the 410ex and 810ex as direct
replacements for the 410 and 810. The new ex versions
are completely redesigned, have a smaller
footprint, more compact sizing and other physical differences.
Parts are not compatible between the 410/810
and the 410ex/810ex.

The printers are shown below with the 410ex on the left and the 810ex on the right.

Life
Toner cartridge2,000 pages (a4 size) at a duty cycle of 5%. The first toner cartridge less.
Image drum20,000 pages (a4 size) continuous printing. The life of the drum will vary according to the duty cycle. The chg drum message is displayed when the image drum has reached 95% of its life.
Printer180,000 pages or 5 years (3,000 pages per month recommended for 410ex and 5,000 pages per month for 810ex.

3. the image drum assembly comes installed in the machine but
should you need to remove/replace it, it just
lifts straight out/in.
4. installing the conditioner cartridge.
Similar to OKI 410/810.
4.1 note: be careful when handling the toner cartridge. Spilled toner
can be difficult to remove from clothes. If
you do spill toner, it should be removed with
cold water: hot water may cause it to adhere to clothing or
skin.
Important: replacement toner cartridges should be stored horizontally
4.2 make sure the printer is switched off.
4.3 open top access cover by operating the two open buttons.
4.4 before removing any tape from the bottom of the toner cartridge,
shake the container several times end
over end. Then shake several times
horizontally..
4.5 remove the tape from the bottom of the toner cartridge, being careful not to spill toner.
4.6 hold the toner cartridge by the blue locking tab ensuring that
the tab is on the right-hand side of the image
drum cartridge recess. Slide the left-hand end
of the toner cartridge into the opening in the image drum,
ensuring that the end of the toner cartridge
fits under the tab at the left-hand end of the opening.
4.7 ensure that the blue plastic tab on the right-hand side of the
toner cartridge lines up with the groove on
the image drum cartridge recess then lower the
right-hand side of the cartridge into the opening in the
image drum.
4.8 push the blue tab forward until it stops.
4.9 the action of the locking tab is stiff to prevent toner from
leaking. You will have to use some force to
complete operation.
5. loading paper trays
5.1 remove the paper tray.
410ex - push in the convex tab in the middle of the tray - then remove.
810ex - pull out the paper tray.
5.2 flex the paper to separate the sheets.
5.3 place the paper into the tray making sure the front corners of
the stack are beneath the tray's paper full
marker. Do not over fill.
5.4 replace cassette back into the machine.
5.5 the paper feeds from the cassette towards the front of the
machine, then towards the rear, see diagram
below:
6. test prints
Note: the control panels of the 410ex and 810ex are different.
6.1 there are 3 test prints, the fonts, menu and demo.
6.2 take the printer off line.
6.3 fonts - press the print fonts button for more than 2 seconds.
6.4 menu - press the print menu button for:-
410ex less than 2 seconds
810ex more than 2 seconds.
6.5 demo - press the print demo button for more than 2 seconds.
7. set ups
7.1 take the printer off line.
7.2 to enter menu 1 press menu 1 button for under 2 seconds. For menu
2 press the menu 1 button for more
than 2 seconds.
7.3 pressing the menu button will scroll through the parameters, and
pressing the enter button will go into the
parameter displayed.
Pressing the + or - button will scroll through the options within that parameter, and the enter button will select the option displayed.
The option selected has a * on it.
7.4 pressing on line exits from set up mode.
7.5 the standard settings for the OKI 410ex and OKI810ex are shown on the following two pages.
8.1 the printer has two interfaces, a 36 pin centronics parallel port
and a 9 pin d type male rs232 serial port. An
interface cable is required to turn the 9 pin
connector into a standard 25 pin d type connector.
Cable type x is to be used.

9. disassembly/assembly OKI 410ex
Note: this does not apply to OKI 810ex
9.1 remove paper tray by pushing in to release it, then sliding it out.
9.2 to open the top cover, operate the open buttons either side, open the top cover.
9.3 remove image drum cartridge by lifting out, store in black bag
provided to keep the light away from it and to
protect the photoreceptor.
9.4 to remove the top cover with control panel.
Remove the two screws on the inside near the front and slowly pivot upwards and towards the rear a little, so that the rear mounting lugs are cleared.
Beware. The ribbon cable connecting the control panel to the logic is still connected.
Raise the top cover about 1" and access the ribbon cable at the rhs near the rear. Release ribbon cable from connector by sliding up the connector. The top cover is now free and can be lifted off.
9.5 to remove the paper path assembly.
Remove all connectors to the logic.
Remove screws at lhs (2), rhs (4) and front centre (1).
Lift out the paper path assembly.
9.6 to remove logic.
Remove connectors.
Remove screws.
Lift out.
9.7 to remove psu.
Remove connectors.
Remove screws.
Lift out.
9.8 assembly is the reverse of disassembly.
10. disassembly/assembly OKI 810ex
Note: this does not apply to the OKI 410ex.
10.1 remove the paper tray by pulling it out.
10.2 to open the top cover, operate the open buttons either side.
10.3 remove the image drum cartridge by lifting it out. Store in the black bag
provided to keep the light away
from and to protect the photoreceptor.
Note: the OKI410ex and 810ex toners and image drum cartridges are totally compatible and interchangeable.
10.4 to remove the top cover.
Remove the two screws on the inside near the front and slowly pivot the front upwards and slide to the rear. Lift the top cover off.
Note: the control panel is not part of the top cover.
10.5 to remove the control panel.
Release the ribbon cable from the logic and the cable clamp.
Release the 2 plastic spring lugs.
Lift of the control panel.
The control panel pcb is held in by 14 lugs.
10.6 to remove rear feed out assembly.
Remove screw holding top access cover earthstrip.
Lift the rhs and slide to the right approximately 1 cm to disengage lhs lugs.
Lift out assembly.
10.7 to remove paper path assembly.
Remove all connectors to the logic.
Remove screws at lhs (2) and rhs (4).
Lift out.
10.8 to remove logic.
Remove connectors.
Remove screws.
Lift out.
10.9 to remove psu.
Remove connectors.
Remove screws.
Lift out.
10.10 assembly is the reverse of disassembly.
11. the OKI 410ex and 810ex are not parts compatible with the OKI 410 or 810.
When responding to a call you must ascertain which version of the printer you are responding to.
