Note: full esd precautions must be followed at all times.
1. Reason for change.
It is required that when an SMC 8432 PCI ethernet pcb
[(NCR3-ethernet (BMC/RJ45)(PCI)] is fitted into an NCR 3438 (S40),
all rom shadowing
must be enabled; and the firmware must be at the following
revisions or later:-
BIOS revision1,00.07bgo
Scu release3,32
Overlay version1.20
If the firmware is not at the correct revision level it must be upgraded.

2. The service centre is responsible for requesting the upgrade diskettes from production.
3. Requirements
* flash diskette
* scu diskette
4.Ensure the customer has 2 verified filesaves and the on-site document is present and
correct.
Obtain a printout of listpro, listptr bu, t-status and list details
from :init-disk. Check
path to uv with !pwd at tcl.
Copy pool.free table and then shutdown system.
5.Insert the customers original scu diskette and reset the system.
Note down the bios level (displayed on the screen following the reset) e.g. 1.00.04.
Also note the scu version from at&t s40 display when the
diskette booted e.g. version
3.11 overlay 0.39.
6.With scu booted, use the arrow keys to move to step 3. Change configuration settings
Check all internal board settings agree with the on site document.
Press esc, to exit and arrow to exit option and
Enter (cr) once more to exit to a dos a prompt.
Power the system off at this point.
7.To backup the existing bios image:
Insert the new 1.00.7.07.bgo bios diskette in the floppy drive, and
power on the
system.
The system will display the flash utility logo, and give a
warning/description of the
procedure. To perform flash update manually press q to exit dos a:
prompt.
At a: enter flupd
Flash memory update will be displayed.
Use cursor keys to highlight "save memory area to a file"
From "save flash area". Select "save system bios and
user area"
Display will now show "path/filename"
From the cursor position, re enter the displayed line a:\*.bio
To read a:\nnnn.bio where nnnn is a recognisable 4 digit
representation at the current
bios.
E.g. for 1.00.04 enter a:\1004.bio
When completed enter
At prompt "image title", enter the filename again e.g.
1004.bio
The system will now backup the existing bios image to the diskette.
Note: if the system warns there is no space on the diskette, insert
a formatted blank
diskette and repeat procedure from "save flash memory to a
file"
The display will return to the main menu when completed.
8)with the new flash diskette in the floppy drive, use the cursor keys to highlight
"update
flash memory area from a file"
From "update flash area" take "update system bios+user area"
Press
System will display "enter path/filename"
Tab down to highlight the new bios filename (currently 1007bgo_.bio
and press
Enter
9)to update scu image and check settings:
Remove bios diskette, insert new scu diskette in the floppy drive.
Reset system and immediately press f1 to enter system setup.
Use the cursor keys to highlight "floppy options"
Check floppy set to 1.44mb/1.25mb 3.5"
Esc to setup menu again and move to"boot options"
Change 1st boot device to floppy.
Change 2nd boot device set to hard disk.
Press f10 to sav+exit and
System will reset and boot scu floppy.
Enter scu utility and take step 3 "change configuration settings"
Check all settings are as noted in para 6) above and when satisfied press esc. To exit.
Arrow down to step 4 "save configuration"
When completed, arrow to step 6 "exit"
And press f10 to reboot system and remove scu diskette.
10)boot system and check processors are online by entering # pinfo
11)recording action
Ensure on site document completed up to date.
Replace the original scu and flash diskette with the latest version.
