REASON FOR CHANGE

Some 8Mb SIMMS manufactured by Kelly Micro Systems and by Infinity Micro Systems have been identified as the cause of intermittent memory parity errors.These errors have been mainly associated with SCO Unix.

Change

If parity errors are reported on NCR 3350 or NCR 3410 system or if there are abnormal halts then perform the following:

Caution: follow proper esd precautionary procedures:

1.        allow the user to create a full and verified file save. (it may be necessary for users to reload a previous
            file save. If so, perform the following before commencing the reload).

2.        shutdown UniVision or moe.

3.        shutdown Unix.

4.        remove all memory simms after noting their installed location.

5.        examine the simms. If:

            A) the pcb is blue or green.

            B) it has "kelly micro system" or "kms" stamped on it.

            C) it has "cubig" stamped on it.

            Replace the simms.

            Testing

            Reboot the system and test for correct operation.

  Enter memsize. At # prompt and ensure Unix reports that it sees all installed memory.

            Recording action

            Ensure scs is properly updated with the results of the examination.

            Disposal of suspect simms.

            Suspect simms are to be returned to NCR for replacement. This is the responsibility of the ralm.

            When returning suspect simms to NCR quote csb 94-0081, authority fro 15-fro-0183.

            Replacement simms should be ordered using 006-3504467 as the part number.

            The exchange program is effective until august 1995.
