CLASS OF CHANGE: INFORMATIONAL
REASON FOR CHANGE: INTRODUCTION OF THE MISTRAL FX144E FAXBOX TO REPLACE THE MISTRAL FX24E

1. Reason for change

The mistral FX144e is being introduced as the EDP faxbox device to replace the mistral FX24e and the
worldport series of asc11 fax modems, both of which are obsolete and being phased out. The FX144e is
similar to the FX24e. The faxbox will only send faxes.

2. Change

The mistral FX144e faxbox is approx 4" x 3.5" x 1.5" in size and physically looks identical to the mistral
FX24e as detailed in AB114 which it supersedes.

        The principal features are:-

-dial-up operation at range of speeds using ccitt standard modulations.

-v27ter and v29 standards for send and receive fax operation at 4800 7200 and 9600 bps half duplex.

-asynchronous serial interface with automatic at command detection and full speed buffering.

        -extended "at" command set.

-error control using v42 or mnp level 4.

-data compression using v42bis or mnp level 5.

-automatic tone or pulse dialing with 2 number memory.

        -automatic v25 answering.

        Like the FX24e the FX144e supports v21, v22, v22bis and v23 and in addition v32, v32bis and v17.

        (tech serv ref: 23/11/1)

3. The faxbox is supplied with a mains power adaptor; a 25 way d type female connector, for connection to the
host system and a standard RJ45 telephone socket. The faxbox should be connected to a dedicated
exchange line. Connection to the host system should be by standard edp system to mentor/unifax cable
specs, dv, dx, ew or ff1 etc.

There is a small yellow reset switch. Which performs a hardware reset.

4. There are four status indicators on the FX144e (like the FX24e). These are:-

-power - green when power is applied and dtr is asserted.

-speed/dcb - solid during transmissions of data at 9600 bps or higher.

        - flashing at slower speeds.

        - error control - solid for connection using v42 error control.

        - flashing for mnp connection.

        - off for non error controlled link.

        - low battery - solid when faxbox is battery powered and battery is low. Not recommended by edp.

5. Installation

The mistral FX144e requires software drivers, if fitted to an existing mentor fax or unifax system. The new
fax kit will contain the software drivers to be loaded onto the host system. Whilst this will always be the
case for mentor systems, the UniVision release after 5.1.3. Will have the drivers already embodied.

The FX144e should be connected to the system, the telephone connector and the power supply.

To install the mistral specific software driver on a UniVision system:

-insert the floppy/tape into the appropriate media device.

-log to sysprog and enter >t-load dict uvprogs (o

Once loaded contact o/s support and request that they configure the fax utility for the mistral driver.

6. Testing

6.1. to test the faxbox software revision level and/or faxbox-system connection:
