4.         Installation procedure

Note:follow proper esd precautionary procedures when installing this change. Have a static free
area set aside to place the removed components.

4.1      ensure the customer has two verified filesaves.

4.2      have the user perform the necessary procedures to shutdown the system in an orderly manner.

4.3      power off the system.

4.4      the system setup will be lost when the baseboard is replaced. It is important to record the hardware
setup. We suggest the following outlined method.

A.boot the system with the proper reference/bios/ diskette and choose setup.

B.at the setup main menu choose the configuration option.

C.at the configuration menu select the backup option. This will write the current configuration to a file called sysconf.ptl. This file will be used later to restore the configuration.

4.5    after again powering off the system, remove the side cover. This is accomplished by removing the two
thumb screws located on the back of the system and pushing up on the release in the inside of the drive
          bay door.

4.6    remove all external cables (keyboard, power, etc).

4.7    note the location of all of the boards in the system. It will be necessary to put the processor, memory ;and
micro channel boards back in their original location after replacing the baseboard.

4.8    remove the processor, memory and micro channel boards from the system.

4.9    disconnect the scsi cable, flex cable, drive power harness and main power harness from the baseboard.

4.10  remove the drive platform (one screw). The platform will rotate until it disengages from the guide posts.

4.11  disconnect the led, fan power, safety interlock, and audio cables.

4.12  remove the drive platform shelf (two screws on the outside of the cabinet).

4.13  remove the micro channel board retainer (one screw).

4.14  take out the system board baffle (one screw). The baffle will be freed by sliding the front forward.

4.15  remove the system fan assembly (four long screws secure the fan to the cabinet). Be sure to note how the
black card guides fit into the slots in the processor/memory board guide.

4.16  the baseboard can now be removed (13 screws).

4.17  take the daughter card from the old baseboard (one screw) and place it on the new board.

4.18  install the new baseboard and re-assemble.

4.19  boot the reference/bios diskette and choose setup. This must be the same diskette used before.

4.20  from the main menu select configuration.

4.21  from the configuration menu choose restore. This will restore the settings saved in the sysconf.ptl file.

5        Testing

To make sure the system is functioning correctly, run diagnostics on the system board.

6        Parts disposal

The old baseboard should be returned to technical services.
