REASON FOR CHANGE: | A QUANTITY OF THE 515-0001745 SCS1 HOST ADAPTOR BOARDS WERE ASSEMBLED WITH DIODE CR2 ORIENTED INCORRECTLY. THIS CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH THE SEAGATE 2GB HARD DRIVES. THE CURE IS TO REPLACE THE BOARD FROM A KIT. |
1. Units affected
1.1 NCR 3350 and ncr3410 units which have add-in SCSI board with p/n 515-0001745.
1.2 the
following is the serial number range of the boards with the cr2 diode reversed that
escaped the
factory (looking at the component side and with j3 to the right, faulty boards will have
the locator notch
to
the left):

1.3 515 - 0001745 boards with the locator in cr2 to the right are useable as is.

boards is identified this is to be reported to Technical Services Linford Wood
who are to obtain frokit

Authority is field retrofit order number 15-fro-0202
3.1 replace 515-0001745 SCSI host adapter boards,
which fall within the quoted serial numbers, with the
515-0005982 scsi host adapter board in
the fro kit, using the following procedure.
3.2 caution: follow proper esd precautionary procedures.
3.3 ensure the customer has two verified file saves.
3.4 have the user perform the necessary procedures to shutdown the system in an orderly manner.
3.5 power off the system.
3.6 remove the cover from the system.
3.7 remove any SCSI cables attached to the scs! Adaptor board
515-0001745.
3.8 remove scs1 adaptor board 515-001745
3.9 insert scs1 adaptor board 515-0005982.
3.10 if original adaptor had rp1 resistor or terminator plug attached transfer to the new adaptor.
3.11 attach any scs1 cables that were attached to board
515-00018745 to the new scs1 board.
3.12 replace the system cover
4 Testing
Test for function using diagnostics
5 Recording Action
Record in site log and complete any other revelant documentation.
6 Disposal
The removed
assembly is to be sent to Techincal Services Linford Wood who are to dispose of it i.a.w.
csssb 95-0079
EDP does not have any of these serial numbers listed.
