FECO 3000 # 45

FECO: 3000 # 45
MODIFICATION No: N/A
PRODUCT: NCR 35XX AND 345X
SUB-ASSEMBLY LST SIMMS
ESTIMATED MAN HOURS N/A
CLASS OF CHANGE: INFORMATIONAL
REASON FOR CHANGE: INTRODUCTION OF NEW LINE STATUS TABLE UNIQUE FLEX/RIGID SIMM

1.        The version 2 disconnect memory board for the 5100 series and 345x series of
products uses only one simm size. However, two versions of the simm are
           available:

           One for data

The other for the line status table (lst)

The lst simm is unique in that it is populated with fewer memory chips.

2.        The description and AT&T part numbers are as follows:

           32 mbit x 24 flex/rigid simmp/n 530-0035906

           32 mbit x 24 lst unique flex/rigid simmp/n 530-0035934

3.        New systems with the version 2 disconnect memory board and also 512MB upgrade
kits for the version 2 disconnect memory board, will contain six of the fully
           populated 32 mbit x 24 flex/rigid data simms and one 32 mbit x 24 lst unique
flex/rigid simm for each populated memory bank.

           (tech serv ref: 25/3/3)

           (cssb-bu96-0081-t)

4.        Unlike earlier memory boards which have lst bits on each simm, the layout of the
version 2 disconnect memory board places all of the lst lines on one simm module.
The lst does not use the simms entire capacity and a significant amount of memory
was being wasted. The purpose for this change was to reduce the manufacturing
costs associated with the simm modules by not populating the unused memory
locations. Certain considerations must be made with regards to lst unique simm
           placement on the memory baseboard.

*the lst unique simms must always be installed in one of the following locations,
depending upon which of the four banks is being populated. These locations are:
           j7, j14, j21, j28.

         *installing a 32 mbit x 24 lst unique simm into any socket other than j7, j14, j21
and j28 will cause firmware to generate a memory error. The error message will
notify the user that the simm in location "jx" is bad (where x is the simm location).

        *fully populated 32 mbit x 24 flex/rigid simms (530-0035906) may be used as a
failure replacement for the 32 mbit x 24 lst unique flex/rigid simms (530-0035934).
Any failed 32 mbit x 24 lst unique flex/rigid simms should be returned to repairs for
onward dispatch to at&t peachtree for rework. If placing an order on at&t for the lst
unique simm, at&t at peachtree has been instructed to substitute the fully
         populated simm.

5.     How to visually identify the lst unique simm: the lst unique simm will be easy to
identify by viewing the twelve (12) empty

Locations on the front of the simm.
