1. Reason for change
A new modem has been introduced to complement the gandalf qx4232, it is the gandal microcom deskporte.
2. Change
The gandalf microcom deskporte range of
modems are dial up modems with 2 wire leased line capability. It
does not have 4 wire leased line capability.
Options include:14.4 or 19.2 or 28.8 capability

Parallel input version
The version edp is taking is the deskporte
fast ep28.8, which has 28.8, synchronous and parallel
capabilities.

5. Specifications
It measures approx 11.5 x 6.5 x 2 inches and is beige in colour.
Protocols include:
Mnp class 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10
Bell 103, bell 212a, v21, v22, v22bis, v23, v32bis, v42, vfast, v42bis.
6. Configuring dial-up modem
6.1 spring out front bezel to reveal the dip switches. Set
All the dip switches down, i.e. closed.
Replace the front bezel.
6.2 connect a vdu to the modem dte connector.
6.3 power up the modem.
6.4 enter at/s to ensure communication, and to display
Current settings. Make a note if necessary.
6.5 enter at&f to default.
6.6 enter at&lo\x1q1\q4&w
Where &lo enables switched line - disables leased line.
\x1 processes and passes on xon/xoff flow control.
Q1 disables output result codes.
\q4 enables unidirectional xon/xoff flow control.
&w stores configuration
6.7 enter at\s to display and check new settings.
6.8 the modem is now set up. Switch off power and remove VDU.
7. Servicing
Servicing is by replacement.
