REASON FOR CHANGE: | INCOMPATIBILITY OF SIMMS |
1.Explanation
There is a compatibility problem when mixing 60NS and 70NS speed
SIMMSs, in the
4300. The most at risk units are those that are shipped without fully
populated memory
boards with 32MB SIMMS (ncr ref f/k105) and an upgrade kit (ncr ref
f/k104); is ordered
to add 16MB SIMMS.
In certain cases the SIMMS will have to be replaced to ensure that
they are all the same
speed.
2.Mixing SIMMS can give a SIMM BIOS error message on boot up.
3.You are to examine the part numbers on the existing 32MB SIMM modules to determine
whether th SIMMS have the new 60NS part number (006-3301866), or the
old 70NS part
number (006-2007119).
If they have the old part number, then the existing 32MB SIMMS will
need to be replaced
before the new 16MB SIMMS (from ncr kit f/k104) may be installed.
4.When all the new SIMMS are ready for installation; install the new 32MB SIMMS into
the
first bank (bank 1). Then install the new 16MB SIMMS into the second
bank (bank 2).
5.You are to ensure that 60NS and 70NS SIMMS are not mixed in the 4300.
