FECO CASHTILL # 7

FECO: CASHTILL # 7
MODIFICATION No: N/A
PRODUCT: INTELLIGENT RS232 CASH DRAWER
SUB-ASSEMBLY N/A
ESTIMATED MAN HOURS N/A
CLASS OF CHANGE: INFORMATIONAL
REASON FOR CHANGE: TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE STANDARD RS232 CASH DRAWER WITH AN INTELLIGENT RS232 CASH DRAWER.

1. Reason for change

The new intelligent Cash drawer (SEE FECO CASHTILL # 6), MEC identity cashbas-rs232 (1)-SCD; can be
used to replace the standard RS232 Cash drawer, MEC identity cashbas-RS232-SCD; when using

The e method of opening. See feco Cash drawer # 4.

However, a converter cable and different set up are required, to enable the intelligent Cash drawer to
respond to cts being raised and lowered to open it, rather than the two "ctrl-g" as described in
FECO CASHTILL # 6. This is known as pulse mode operation.

2. Change

The converter cable, hereafter called the intelligent converter cable, or ICC; is as follows

3. To replace standard Cash drawer with intelligent Cash drawer

3.1ensure all power and data are switched off/unlinked before proceeding.

3.2disconnect the existing standard Cash drawer from the Cash drawer tail.

3.3connect the ICC to the Cash drawer tail.

3.4set up the intelligent Cash drawer.

On some models the dip switches are accessible from the outside, if they are go straight to para 3.4.6. If
        not, go to para 3.4.1.

3.4.1access the interface board by:-

3.4.2inverting the cash drawer and removing 4 screws in the feet.

3.4.3remove the bottom plate.

3.4.4release the interface board bracket by removing the two screws at the rear, located approx 2" either side of
        the low voltage connector.

3.4.5gently withdraw the interface board a little as the solenoid is still connected to it.

3.4.6ensure the dip switches are set as listed below.

        1 = closed = on0 = open = off

        12345678910

        0011111011

Switches 1-7 set the ASCII character to ctrl-g

Switch 8 sets the two character mode.

Switches 9-10 set the baud rate to 9600.

3.4.7refit the interface board and replace the bottom plate if necessary.

3.5connect the PSU and data cable to the intelligent Cash drawer.

3.6connect the data cable to the ICC.

3.7power everything up, link lines then test.

4.testing

To test the cash drawer using the e method.

4.1to open the cash drawer type:-

        Protocol n c=1

        ******followed immediately by*******

        Protocol n c=0

Where n = the process number

        The drawer should open.

4.2if it doesn't open, disconnect the "cash drawer tail" from the intelligent converter cable then;

        Type: protocol n c=1.

Measure the voltage between pin 2 and pin 7 on the "cash drawer tail". It should be +12 volts.

If it is, then the cash drawer is faulty.

If it is not, then the RTC is faulty.

        Remember to enter:

Protocol n c=0 before reconnecting the cable.

4.3the above test assumes that all interface cabling is "good".

5.recording action

        Complete all normal documentation.
