FECO 3000 # 40

FECO: 3000 # 40a
MODIFICATION No: 3000 STRIKE3
PRODUCT: NCR 3450
SUB-ASSEMBLY SCSI CONTROLLER (53C700)
ESTIMATED MAN HOURS 1.75
CLASS OF CHANGE: MANDATORY BY REPAIRS ON REPAIR OR RE-WORK

MANDATORY BY PRODUCTION ON COMMISSIONING

REASON FOR CHANGE: FIRMWARE CHANGE

TO INCREASE SUPPORT FROM 8 LUNS TO 16 LUNS

1.         Introduction

This 53c700 SCSI adapter firm ware is for supporting greater than 8 luns and iNCReases the
            maximum up to 16 luns.

            The NCR3450 manufacturing incorporation was:

            Tracer no. 36-008700 s/no 36-25811221.

2.         Method of change

The method for change will be to modify P.C.B.'S as they pass through repairs or production.

It will also be necessary to modify SCSI adapters when upgrading an unmodified system above 8 luns.
The customer services supervisor is to contact technical services for implementation instructions.

3.         Change

3.1.      note: full esd precautionary procedures must be followed at all times.

3.2.      ensure the customer has two verified file saves.

3.3.      have the user perform the necessary procedures to shut down the system in an orderly manner.

3.4.      before attempting to modify the SCSI adapter the current firmware revision level must be determined.
If it is 1.2.0.0. Or higher then the SCSI adapter does not require to be modified.

There are two methods of determining the revision level:

            * physical inspection - see paragraph 3.9.

            * SCSI inquiry - see paragraph 3.5.

            (tech serv ref 11/10/1)

            (cssb 95-0100)

3.5.      SCSI inquiry

Before powering off use the system for SCSI inquiry:

            * bring up the sus menu.

            * select (4) extended diag services.

            * select (1) SCSI diagnostics.

            * select (6) SCSI expansion rom revision

This will display the firmware revision for each SCSI controller in the format xxxx where a (.) Is
assumed between each x. Make a note of the firmware revision level displayed. If the revision level is
1.2.0.0. Or higher, the SCSI adapter does not need modifying.

3.6.      power off the system. Open both the ac mains and the battery circuit breakers located at the rear of the
             unit.

3.7.      locate all the dual SCSI controller boards and note which board is in which microchannel slot.

3.8.      remove all the SCSI controller boards from the unit and note the serial number and part number of each.

3.9.      physical inspection

Examine boards for the following part numbers:

             530-0034306 530-0034774 530-0035437 EPROM location 6j

             530-0034307 530-0034775 530-0035438 EPROM location 6j

             530-0034308 530-0034776 530-0035439 EPROM location 4e

             530-0035440 EPROM location 6j

             530-0035631 EPROM location 4e

             530-0035643 EPROM location 6j

Boards with part numbers higher than those listed above may be re-installed in the system immediately.
Firmware on all boards matching the numbers listed above must be examined.

3.10.   locate EPROM in location 6j or 4e as applicable, if the part number of the EPROM is not 530-0018579
it must be replaced with the EPROM provided in retrofit kit number 603-5013227. Note: only the last
four digits of the part number are written on the ic chip.

3.11.   re-install the SCSI controller boards in their original locations. It is important that the system
configuration remains the same as it was before the upgrade unless it is being reconfigured on
purpose. The system will report errors whenever a module is moved to a different slot.

3.12.   power up the system.

3.13.   reboot the system and check for any level 0 reported errors.

3.14.   note: if appropriate, upgrade the system firmware provided

(2.00.02.2). It will also be necessary to run the reference diskette. Refer to system hardware
documentation and transmittal documents provided in the kit.

4.         Testing

Check for the ability to access all SCSI devices connected to the upgraded controllers.

5.         Recording action

Attach a modification label to the SCSI adapter, if not already fitted, strike through but do not
            obliterate 3.

            Complete all other relevant documentation.

6.         Mod kit

            AT+T part number: kit 603-5013227

            Consisting of:
