MODIFICATION No: N/A
PRODUCT: NCR 3430
SUB-ASSEMBLY 3430 SECOND PROCESSOR SUPPORT PACKAGE
ESTIMATED MAN HOURS N/A
CLASS OF CHANGE: INFORMATIONAL
REASON FOR CHANGE: To give the installation instructions for a 3430 Second Processor Support Package.

Change

1.0         Introduction

The 3430 second processor support package (mpsupport) provides the software necessary to enable
a second Pentium processor board in a 3430 system.

If the mpsupport package is not installed, only one processor will be enabled; if a second processor
board is present, a message will appear on the console when the system is booted, indicating that
the mpsupport package is needed to enable the second processor.

Once the mpsupport package has been installed, both pentium processor boards in the 3430 will be
enabled. Note that if only one processor board is present in the system, installing this package will
                have no effect.

2.0           installation - hardware

2.1          ensure all electrical power is disconnected from the system, and that anti-static precautions are
               employed at all relevant times.

2.2          remove the left side cover of the system to gain access to the inside.

2.3           fit plastic pcb guide rails, if not already fitted.

2.4           fit second processor into vacant slot.

Both processors are identical and are not position sensitive.

2.5            refit the left side cover.

2.6            reconnect power and boot the system.

                 (tech serv ref 1/11/1)

3.0            release media

The 3430 second processor support package (mpsupport) is distributed on one (1) flex diskette.

4.0             resources

The 3430 second processor support package (mpsupport) requires an NCR system 3430 running
NCR unix svr4 mp-ras release 2.02 or higher. The system must contain two (2) pentium processor
boards in order for the mpsupport package to have any effect (it may be installed on a
single-processor 3430, but will not change the operation of the system). There are no other
                  hardware requirements.

Note: if this package is installed on any other NCR system 3000 system running NCR unix svr4
mp-ras release 2.02 or higher, it will have no positive or negative effects.

5.0             migration

This is the initial release of the 3430 second processor support package (mpsupport). Additionally,
NCR unix svr4 mp-ras release 2.02 is the first release to support the 3430. Thus there are no
migration issues. Future releases of NCR unix svr4 mp-ras which can be accomplished via a
software update will not require re-installation of the mpsupport package.

6.0             installation - software

Installation of the 3430 second processor support package (mpsupport) is accomplished by
entering "pkgadd -d /dev/rdsk/f03hr" or "pkgplus -d /dev/rdsk/f03ht", from the unix command line
while logged in as root. After successful installation and relinking of the kernel, the system will need
to be rebooted for the mpsupport package to take effect.

7.0            testing

                Test for function.

8.1          support

Contact o/s support at linford wood.

8.2         reporting errors

O/s support reporting errors to NCR/AT&Tgis.

The model number for reporting errors against the 3430 second processor support package is
f301-2500/02 (this is the same model number that is used to report errors against the operating
             system environments).

9.0        recording action

Update the NCR 3000 series configuration record and site log book.

             Complete any other relevant documentation.
