VIGILANT 7 UPS SOFTWARE ON CHLORIDE POWERLAN UPS

ON NCR 3000 SYSTEMS RUNNING UNIX SVR4

  1. This is to introduce the Chloride PowerLan range of UPS devices together with their associated software suite called Vigilant 7.

The Chloride UPS’s are the larger size, typically 3KVA or 7KVA, and will probably be used with NCR 4300’s only. The UPS will usually consist of a main unit and an add on battery pack. As they are the higher power range they tend to be heavy.

  1. This FECO refers only to Vigilant 7, and a Chloride PowerLan UPS, as connected to an NCR 3000 system running UNIX SVR4.

  1. Ensure the computer system is shutdown and turned off correctly.

  1. Install Chloride PowerLan the UPS and any battery packs as per the installation instructions provided with the UPS.

  1. Connect the interface cable provided, to the first computer COMM port, and then to the UPS. Do not use any form of adapter at the UPS end.

  1. Restart the UPS and computer system.

  1. Disable ttymon from monitoring the port.

In root enter

pmadm – l

This command lists the PMTAG and SVCTAG for each port.

Note these values and substitute the values of these tags in the following command

pmadm – d – p {PMTAG} –s{SVCTAG} < CR>

  1. Install VIGILANT 7.

8.1 FOR DISKETTE or TAPE INSTALLATION GOTO PARA

tar xvf {device name} <CR>

(omit the f {device name} if the device is the system default device)

this will install the Vigilant 7 into the /tmp file.
GOTO PARA 8.4

mkdir fred
mount –F cdfs –r /dev/dsk/
device address/fred
where device address is the device address of the CD-ROM
cp –r/fred/*/tmp/temp
cd/tmp/temp/vigilant/unix/software
chmod 777 vigilant.tar
