INTRODUCTION OF NETUPS & FAILSAFE/LANSAFE 111 SOFTWARE

  1. This is to introduce the NCR NetUPS and its associated Failsafe/Lansafe III software

  2. DESCRIPTION
    The NetUPS Uninterruptable Power Supply and its associated Failsafe/Lansafe III software is designed to give an Orderly Shutdown to a system in the event of a mains failure. It does not give Power Fail Recovery. Other features include hot swappable batteries and Network Surge Protection. Refer to the Operators Manual for full details. Below the 1000VA & 1500VA are shown on the left, and the 450VA & 700VA on the right.

    NOTE Throughout this FECO a space in a string is shown by a Ñ. All other spaces are purely cosmetic.

  4. TO INSTALL & INITIALIZE SOFTWARE

    4.1 Insert the CD, Failsafe/Lansafe III release 3.7 into the CD drive.

    4.2 In root mount the cd. Use listdrives to identify the cd device pathname. Note this software requires
         specific options to be set. Enter

         # mount Ñ -FÑ cdfs Ñ -o dperm = 500, nmconv = c Ñ /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 Ñ /mnt

    4.3 Change directory to the mounted point for the cd, Enter

         # cdÑ /mnt

    4.4 Run the install script, Enter.

         # shÑ ./INSTALL.SH

         Welcome <CR>

         Respond to the prompts as shown below in bold.

         Continue installation? Y

         Are you installing from a CD - ROM ? Y

         The default install pathname for this softwre is /usr/ls3

         Do you want to change this path N

         Automatically run Lansafe III on start up Y

         The screen will list the install parameters

         Check they are correct

         Are these install parameters acceptable Y

         This system will install Lansafe III

         If the system is the only one being run off of the UPS then the answer N to the following question.

         Is this computer part of a UPS group N

         Please enter the UPS model Enter 1 for Netups

         Please enter the UPS port Enter 1 for /dev/term/00

         Please enter the Wink Time (1-999 secs) Enter 5

    4.5 To initialize the software, in root
         Enter # cdÑ /usr/ls3

         Enter # ./ls3& to start demon

    4.6 Return to root Enter # cd..

    4.7 Reboot the system Enter # shutdown –y –i6 –g0

    4.8 When the system runs up, Lansafe III is now running

  5. SERVICING TESTS/FUNCTIONS

    5.1 Servicing tests and functions are carried out via the Power Monitor Menu

    5.2 To access the Power Monitor Menu from root
         Enter # ./usr/ls3/ls3con

         Please enter the Access Code for the Power Monitor

         Enter edp

    5.3 POWER MONITOR MENU
         O Exit

    1. Configure Lansafe

    2. Start hardware test

    3. Start preventive maintenance

    4. Shutdown/reboot workstation

    5. View Output load, Input utility power and battery

    6. Export power and battery log files

    5.4 Power Monitor Menu Description

    1. To reconfigure or change the access code


    2. The front LED’s should cycle in the sequence shown below

    3. Same as 2

    4. Submenu displayed

    1 Timed shutdown

    2 Reboot

    3 Permanent shutdown

    4 Unload software - note this only stops the daemon running and does not remove
       the software from system

    To remove the software see para 8

    5 List details of current (as of now) status

    6 Exports file to printer etc.

  6. FUNCTIONAL TEST

    6.1 To carry out a functional test, remove the mains input supply to the UPS.

    6.2 Ensure that a message is displayed on the system console and that the system runs down

    6.3 When the system has run down wait until the UPS switches off.

    6.4 Reconnect the mains supply to the UPS.

    6.5 Ensure that the system runs up correctly.

    6.6 NOTE. Under normal operating conditions, if the mains supply to the UPS is reconnected to the UPS
         after system has run down but before UPS switches off; then the system must be switched off before
         it will run up again..

  7. SERVICING
    For details on hot swapping the batteries refer to the Operators Manual for full details.

  8. TO REMOVE THE SOFTWARE

    8.1 Identify the pid number for the associated Failsafe/Lansafe III software.

         In root Enter # ps Ñ –ef Ñ |Ñ grep ls3

    8.2 Kill this pid Enter # kill Ñ –9Ñ pid number

    8.3 Remove all the contents of the associated Failsafe/Lansafe III software directory
         In root Enter # cd Ñ /usr/ls3 to go to the ls3 directory
         Enter # rmÑ –rÑ * to remove the contents of the ls3 directory

    8.4 Remove the directory
         Enter # rmdirÑ ls3

    8.5 The Software removal is complete

  9. CABLE SPEC Cable supplied with the UPS for connecting the UPS to the system com port.
