CHANGE IN TYPE OF KEYBOARD SUPPLIED

  1. INTRODUCTION
There is a change in the standard type of keyboard that EDP supply with the Wyse 55ESP VDU.
  2. CHANGE
With effect from 6th April 1999, EDP will only supply Wyse 55ESP VDU’s with an Enhanced PC style keyboard, the previously supplied ASCII Keyboard will no longer be an available option.
The differences are shown on page 2.
Please note that the PC keyboard is a MEC item, with a serial number; and must be tracked like all other EDP serial numbered items.

    Item MEC id
    VDU WYSE-55-ES
    VDU WYSE-55-ESP
    KEYBOARD WYSE-55-KBD(PC)
  3. SERVICING POLICY
When replacing keyboards ON NO ACCOUNT must an ASCII Keyboard be replaced
by a PC Keyboard, or a PC Keyboard be replaced by an ASCII one.

  4. KEYBOARD DIFFERENCES
The layout and number of keys are different, see the diagrams over the page.
The entry to the set up mode instead of being SHIFT-SETUP or CTRL-SETUP
    is now SHIFT-SELECT or CTRL-SELECT.
All other settings are the same.

  1. REPORTED PROBLEMS
Problems have been reported with customers using Wyse 55 VDU’s with an ASCII keyboard.
If the VDU is set to VT100 and FDX Mode, if the customer inadvertently hits the Del key instead of the Back Space key; (they are beside each other); then the mode changes from FDX to BLK. This unintentional change causes problems, and usually a fault call. . The symptoms are that the screen hangs, but tandem works OK
Operating the Del key will toggle the mode back from BLK to FDX, provided the operator realises what the problem is.
This does not happen with the PC keyboard.
If a customer want a PC Keyboard instead of an ASCII one they can purchase them from EDP.
