1. INTRODUCTION
   It is required that on NCR 4300 systems the 4mm tape decks have their compression controlled by the system using software control rather than by hardware control.
   
2. To do this the Tecmar 3800 tape unit must have its hardware compression set to NO, so must have a jumper between pins 7 & 8 (See figures 5 & 6).
   
3. EDP STANDARD SETTING.
   All units must be set with the jumper IN between pins 7 & 8.
