1            INTRODUCTION

               There can be problems with backward compatibility of tapes.

2            SENARIO

              At present the Vision 7400 system has a 4mm DAT tape unit fitted

              This is DDS4 technology which is 20/40 GB on a 150 metre tape.

              The unit is a Seagate STD2401LW
              MEC Description G-DAT-4MM (2401LW) (20GB)

3            PROBLEM

              DDS4 tapes cannot be read on DDS3 tape units.

              They are not backwards compatible.
